Design Show & Trade Fair Open House
More than 200 professional retail florists and guests got caught up in a day of inspiration and education at the 32nd Annual Dillon Floral Design Show and Open House. The day’s theme was “Get Caught in the Dillon Floral World Wide Web of Flowers!” Indeed, the Dillon World Wide Web of Flowers was in attendance with florists, growers and manufacturers representing ten states and four different countries.
The feature designer for the all-day Design Show was Joyce Mason-Monheim, AIFD, PFCI, AzMF. Assisting Joyce were Susan Miller, AIFD, from Hometown Floral & Gifts in South Williamsport, PA and Vince Butera, AIFD, PFCI from Butera the Florist in York, PA.
Joyce captivated the audience during the all day design show, pairing fast paced on-stage design with practical floral and marketing ideas. The retail florist guests were inspired for the upcoming Fall and Winter holidays with design ideas from Autumn Splendor to Halloween to Christmas. Joyce focused on making design and production choices to help find profits in your business and gave valuable tips on working smarter to be more successful.
Audience members actively participated, asking questions and carefully observing designs as they were created. A calming presence and a confidant business woman, Joyce presented stunning designs while sharing excellent information. For instance, she offered seemingly simple tips: keep your glue pan at a temperature low enough so you can put your fingers in it without getting burned. She also shared business advice: choose a visual logo and color or colors and make sure to repeat it on all printed materials, every delivery, vehicles, clothing, and signage. Further, she stressed the importance of turning inventory within 90 days, and keeping meticulous count of the cost of goods in every design.

Products produced in the Dillon greenhouses in Bloomsburg were on display; Alstroemeria, Gerbera Daisy and Oriental and Asiatic Lilies as well as Dillon Designed Dish Gardens. A dozen of Dillon Floral’s vendor partners participated in a Trade Fair. The Fair included representatives from domestic and South American flower farms, international flower importers as well as domestic manufacturers. Florists took advantage of the opportunity to book their choices of varieties and packs on standing order for the coming year.
Owing to the dedication of Dillon Floral customers, vendor partners and team members, the day was full of education, inspiration and cooperation.
