On Sunday, September 14, 2008, Dillon Floral will host our 34th Annual Open House / Design Show / Trade Fair.

The all-day event will be held at the Bloomsburg location at 933 Columbia Blvd. in Bloomsburg, PA. Professional Florists will be invited to attend for a day of inspiration and education.

Vendor partners representing domestic and South American flower farms, international flower importers and domestic manufacturers will participate in a Trade Fair.

Hitomi Gilliam, AIFDOur feature designer for the Design Show will be Hitomi Gilliam, AIFD, Keynote lecturer, demonstrator, educator, consultant and personal coach in all aspects of the Art of Flowers and Floral Design. She is One of only 6 recipients of AIFD ‘DESIGN INFLUENCE’ AWARD –( awarded to individuals who have made a significant impact and influence with their signature design style) in 1998 at AIFD National Symposium in Boston.

Hitomi is currently a Creative Director for DESIGN358, a floral event and management company, she was inducted into American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) in 1986 and has been a Featured Designer at AIFD National Symposium in 1987, 1988, 1990, 1994, 2003, 2005 & 2007.

She has lectured at Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto), Chicago Botanical Gardens, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Cheekwood Botanical Gardens (Nashville), Oakland Art Museum, Dixon Gallery & Gardens (Memphis), Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Minneapolis Art Institute, Legion of Honor Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, New Orleans Museum of Fine Arts, Cleveland Botanical Garden and The Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore.

She is the organizer of the Annual ‘Survival of the Creative Minds’ Conference in Taos, New Mexico. The 11th Annual Conference ‘Cycle’ is scheduled for October 11 & 12, 2008.

Ms. Gilliam served 6 years on AIFD Membership Review Committee and served 6 years on their Education Committee. She is co-author and illustrator of ‘The AIFD Guide to Floral Design – Terms, Techniques and Traditions’ (2005)
Other literary credits include:
  • Co-authored the book ‘EARTH MAN SPIRIT’ with John Haines AIFD and Sanford Mauldin, a photo essay of Creative American Design (1994).
  • Co-authored two Textbooks – ‘Fundamental Theories of Design’ (1997) and ‘Design Compendium: Styles & Methods’ (1999) with John Haines.
  • Authored a textbook ‘ARTFLOR – Advanced Design + Process’ (2006) and ‘Creative Edge – a Floral Retrospective’(2007 – NEW) with photographer, Philippe Martin-Morice.
