Valentine's Day Workshop

On Wednesday, January 10, 2007, fifty Dillon University Students converged on Dillon Floral in Bloomsburg for a nuts-and-bolts, florist-to-florist Valentine’s Day Workshop. Instructor Rosemary Holmes of Nevill’s Flowers in Montoursville shared design and business experience in an interactive workshop setting.

DU students shared their creativity and design talent in the Valentine Product Development Workshop. Each group designed, priced, named and presented a holiday product that could be produced efficiently and profitably. The array of products was impressive to say the least.

Valentines 2The business seminar, led by Karen Marinelli, provided tools for holiday record keeping and holiday planning. Students also learned how to derive a pricing formula for their shop, based upon their own business operating statement.

An event highlight was a session lead by Rob Dillon who outlined the best practices for rose care and handling. He went beyond a list of dos and don’ts by explaining the basic science behind the rules.

From rose care and design ideas to business tips and production processes, students went home with many new tools to use for a productive and profitable Valentine’s Day 2007.
